GCS Habitat House Continues to Grow

Early each Saturday morning at 906 Dunbar St, GCS volunteers come together to accomplish the building tasks for the day. After a slow start due to the snow, the GCS Habitat for Humanity House is on schedule and growing each week!

You don’t have to be an expert to help. In fact, some of these folks have never been on a construction site before. Students, staff and family members have shared their strength and skills to work together as a team. Once the foundation was complete and the walls were up, the trusses were placed on top to support the roof without using a crane! Shingles have been added to the roof and the front porch has been built.

The construction will continue into the summer and is scheduled to be complete by July, with the Dedication of the house scheduled for July 31, 2010. Whether it’s shingling a roof or building a wall, the Guilford County Schools’ community is working together to make the dream of a home a reality.
