Habitat for Humanity House is Complete

During the spring and summer of the 2009-2010 school year, Guilford County Schools (GCS) staff and students partnered with Habitat for Humanity of Greater Greensboro to build a house in our community.  Funding for this house was made possible by a local organization with no financial costs to Guilford County Schools.

In February, once the weather permitted, construction began with work on the foundation and crawl space. This work progressed under the direction of the Habitat staff and volunteers from GCS. The walls went up and the dream started to become a reality. GCS volunteers worked each week to complete the build tasks set by the Habitat staff.

Believe it or not, skills were optional for volunteers.  Each Saturday morning the HFH staff would update the new crew on safety issues, go over the tasks for the day and help people get started.  Of course it was always nice to find those folks with a plethora of knowledge and expertise.   Each volunteer experienced the rewards and success of team building, helping others, and giving back to our community.  A Guilford County Schools family now calls this house a home. The dedication ceremony was held on July 31, 2010.

See below to view the weekly building progress of the house and reflections sent in by staff and students about their service experience.
