Achieving Educational Excellence

Angelo KiddAngelo Kidd has served Guilford County Schools (GCS) in an administrative capacity since 1989, and on April 7, 2009, he was named as one of five regional superintendents. Kidd will lead the Western Region.

Kidd, who has been the principal of Northwest High since 2006, has brought high achievement to each school he has served. Under his direction, Northwest has earned the honor of School of Distinction each year, and earned AYP in 2007 and 2008. The number of Advanced Placement (AP) exams taken since 2005 have more than doubled since Kidd’s presence at Northwest.

From 2001-2005, Kidd was principal at Northeast High and during his first two years improved achievement in 8 of 10 end-of-course tests - six of the eight tests saw double digit improvements. The school garnered more than 14,000 parent volunteer hours during his final two years at Northeast. Kidd also was principal at Southern High from 1997-2001 and Nathanael Greene Elementary for the 1995-96 school year.

Kidd, whose career first started in the classroom, taught at the high school and middle school level for 21 years. He taught AP English and was a recipient of the National Bicentennial Youth Debates Educator’s Award in 1975.

Kidd, who grew up in the greater Cincinnati area, received a Bachelor of Science degree in English and history from Cumberland College. He earned a master’s degree in English and an administrator’s certificate from Ball State University. Kidd, who is one of seven children, has three children and one grandchild. His wife, Linda, is the assistant principal at Page High.
